Below you can read up on the games console before downloading it.

If you had one of the featured consoles when you were younger and didn't know much about the background or history of the machine, here's your chance now to catch up.

Nintendo SNES
The Nintendo Entertainment System was one of the most popular game consoles of all time and Nintendo thought they could keep this success going for years to come.

Even with the announcement of the 16-bit Sega Mega Drive in 1988, Nintendo were still happy with their NES and thought 16-bit was premature or unnecessary.

That was until they noticed the Mega Drive taking over the market due to its superior quality.

Nintendo quickly began development of the Super Famicom.

Nintendo 64
Nintendo 64 was originally code-named Project Reality and was to be called the Ultra 64.

The release date, June 23 1996 in Japan.

It was then released in USA on 26 September in the same year for US$199.

Other countries followed soon after.

This 64-bit console used cartridges rather than CDs, which were being used in competitors 32-bit consoles.

The main competitor of the Nintendo 64 was Sony's Playstation.

The Nintendo 64 had many advantages over the other consoles, thanks to Silicon Graphics.

There is a huge difference in loading times between a CD and a cartridge.

This was one benefit, but then cartridges cannot give the same "CD-quality" sound.

SEGA Master System
The Sega SG-1000 Mark III was the next game console in the SG-1000 series after SG-1000 Mark I and SG-1000 Mark II (an updated Mark I).

It was released in Japan in 1984 to compete with the Nintendo Famicom and designed similar to the Mark II.

The parts inside are similar to the MSX computer and SG-1000 but have been improved.

The system would take its own cartridges as well as Sega Cards and SG-1000 carts.

The Sega Cards are the same ones that are compatible with the SG-1000 card catcher add-on, but the card catcher is now built-in to the Mark III console.

SEGA Mega Drive
In 1987, 16-bit personal computers such as the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST, and 16-bit arcade machines made video game consoles look not so good.

At this time, Nintendo had a 95% market share in the US and 92% in Japan.

It was no use for Sega to continue battling with its Master System console.

It was time to try a new way of outdoing the competition.

Sony PlayStation
The Sony PlayStation began as the SNES PlayStation, an add-on peripheral for the Nintendo SNES, but after a dispute between Sony and Nintendo over control of licences, Sony was dropped from the project.

Ken Kutaragi, the Sony researcher who had worked on the SNES PlayStation (and the sound chip for the SNES) did not want to give up.

He wanted to continue working on this project and so, after some debate, Sony President Norio Ogha approved the start of the Sony Computer Entertainment Division, which would one day account for around half of Sony's revenues.

This was Sony's entry into the world of video game consoles and would also mean competition for Nintendo.
